The City of Cherokee is pleased to announce that an updated draft of the City's Comprehensive Plan has been completed and is available for review by city officials and the general public.
The Plan has been reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Board and is now scheduled for a Planning and Zoning Public Hearing on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 416 W. Main St.
Subject to input received at this hearing, the plan is tentatively scheduled for review and Public Eearing by the City Council at the November 22, 2011 regular meeting.
All citizens are encouraged to attend one or more of theses hearings regarding the City of Cherokee's future.
In announcing the update of the Plan draft, Mayor Mark Murphy stated: "I am very pleased that the Plan reflects the input received from the citizens of Cherokee. It will be a great tool for future governing bodies to use in setting goals and developing budgets."
The final draft of the Plan is available for review at City Hall or the Public Library. It also can be reviewed at the City's web site: HYPERLINK "http://www.cherokeeiowa.net" www.cherokeeiowa.net
The document includes descriptions of the city's current land use practices and recommendations as to where future development should occur. The plan also discusses housing, transportation, economic development, public facilities and parks and open space within the City.
