Schwarz paces MMC/RU XC girls

KINGSLEY - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union cross country girls team placed third in last week's Cross Country Invitational here, hosted by Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central/Lawton-Bronson on the Kingsley Golf Course.

le Mars Gehlen won the girls 10-team competition with 48 points, while the host team K-P/WC/L-B was second with 60, and MMC/RU third with 61.

The MMC/RU team did not field a full squad to count in the boys division team standings.

Nicki Schwarz led the MMC/RU girls to the finish line, placing fourth in 18:02, followed by Sarah Bird 11th in 18:41, Sydney Roberts 16th in 19:43, Heather Hoefling 18th in 19:56, Amber Neisius 24th in 20:36, Anna Wilcox 32nd in 21:45, and Carly Lehnhoff 35th in 22:39. Schwarz, Bird, Roberts, and Hoefling medaled as top 20 finishers.

In the girls JV race, all six Eagle runners medaled, led by Kim Schroeder third in 22:33, Mallory Roseen eighth in 26:46, Tina Wilkens ninth in 27:15, Jill Addison 10th in 27:39, Sara Peters 11th in 27:50, and Jeri Welp 12th in 28:57.

In varsity boys action for MMC/RU, Zach Kellog was 36th in 23:01, and Mitch Brady 48th in 25:37.

In JV boys, Ben Brady was fourth in 22:02 to medal, Jacob Pearson 11th in 24:11, and Nathan Ruba 12th in 24:17.
