MMC hammers Clay Central Everly, 40-8

EVERLY - Tanner Utesch passed for three touchdowns, two of those to Zach Specht, and ANdrew Hoefling returned a punt 80 yards to lead Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn to a decisive 40-8 Class A District football win over winless Clay Central Everly (0-7) here Friday night.

Utesch completed 7-16 passes for 116 yards, hooking up twice with Specht, who also rushed for a TD, and once with Hoefling on a 27-yard TD pass.

In addition, Dalton Brady and Specht rushed for TDs, with the workhorse Brady leading the Eagle ground attack with 146 yards on 29 carries. Isaiah Petersen rushed eight times for 30 yards, and Hoefling three times for 27 yards. Utesch carried the ball six times for 14 yards.

Brady, Specht, and Hoefling each caught three passes and Brady and Utesch each rushed for two two-point conversions. Dylan Spieler also saw action at QB for MMC and completed 3-3 passes for 52 yards.

Nathan Zubrod paced the MMC defense with five tackles, while Jared Gross, Levi Letsche, Petersen, and Dylan Rolfes tallied four apiece.

Specht also had three pass interceptions to lead the Eagles secondary.

The 4-4 MMC team travels to #1 Le Mars Gehlen (8-0) Friday night for another District toughie.
