ESTHERVILLE - The Cherokee Washington High girls battled all the way before losing a 3-1 Lakes Conference volleyball decision at Estherville-LC Tuesday night, falling by game scores of 21-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-27.
"In the fourth game, we battled back from a 17-23 deficit and tied the game, but did not win the game. I was proud of the way the girls fought in that fourth game."
Shanon Shaefer paced Cherokee in hitting, totaling 1o kills, while jackie Wilson tallied eight, Megan Hummel six, Kaitlyn Miller and Taylor Woods five apiece, and Jenna Lundsgaard two.
Setter Miller chalked up 21 assists in the match, while Carlson had four, and Hummel three. Miller and Wilson also led the team in blocks with seven assists each, while Woods had three, and Shaefer two. Woods also had a solo block.
Shaefer led in digs with 19, followed by Carlson and Hummel 16 each, Freed 12, and Miller nine.
Cherokee, now 11-20 in matches for the season, plays in the Storm Lake Invitational Saturday to wrap up the regular season. Estherville-LC (20-10) also will be competing at Storm Lake Saturday for a possible rematch with the WHS gals.
