Aurelia motorist struck by train

An Aurelia man was taken to Cherokee Regional Medical Center with incapacitating injuries on Monday, after his car was struck by a train, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported.

At approximately 1:53 p.m., Eric Charles Herman, 35, was westbound on Cherokee county road C-43. According to the sheriff's office, Herman's vehicle struck the crossing arms on the train tracks at 550th Street. Herman's vehicle was then struck by a southeast-bound Canadian National train.

Herman's vehicle came to a stop in the south ditch, east of the crossing, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

No additional information was immediately available.
