Year 2011 is the 40th year that Cherokee's Stan Sitzmann, assisted by many friends, including Mary, Tom and Naomi Keller, has been running a fundraiser for needy children. The Kellers have been helping Stan for the last 22 years.
They will be selling raffle tickets door-to-door in Cherokee and the surrounding communities in the coming weeks, and a raffle will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Brightside Lounge in Cherokee.
Marcus resident and Major League Baseball umpire Bruce Dreckman and his wife Danae will again be selling the tickets in Marcus.
The cost of one ticket is $1, and that will give you a chance to win one of three prizes at the Dec. 17th raffle. First prize will be $300 worth of groceries, second prize is $100, and third prize is $50. Buying five tickets not only wins you a chance to win a raffle prize, but you also receive an Iowa Lottery ticket, which, of course, gives the bearer of the ticket a chance to win even more loot.
On the day of the drawing, there will be also be an auction at The Brightside where those present can bid on many nice items which were generously donated by area merchants.
The money raised from both the raffle ticket sales and the winning auction bids will go to help purchase a nice outfit of clothing for each of up to 150 needy area children.
