SCHALLER - Area teams Ridge View and Alta-Aurelia met up in the first round of the Class 2A Regional Volleyball Tournament here on Tuesday, and the Raptors scored a 3-0 victory over the Warriors to advance to the next round. Game scores were 19-25, 10-25 and 7-25.
Ridge View, which improved its overall mark to 24-16, will meet Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, a 3-0 winner over Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove on Tuesday, in second round action in Mapleton next Tuesday.
Gretchen Kistenmacher, Kaitlynn Madsen and Jadyn Mohr each had seven kills for Ridge View, and Jayde Vondrak chipped in with six kills; Ridge View served at a 95.9% success rate, led by four Raptors who each served at a 100% success rate - Kistenmacher was 20-20, with three ace serves; Mohr was 16-16, also with three ace serves; Dana Hustedt was 13-13, with four ace serves; and Anna Davis was 8-8, with two aces.
Nicole Snyder had 24 assists for Ridge View while Dana Hustedt had 19 digs. Ridge View blocked a team total of 13 shots, led by Kaitlynn Madsen's four blocks; Jadyn Mohr had three blocks; and Anna Davis and Jayde Vondrak each had two.
Alta-Aurelia coach Jeannie Henningsen said, "I thought we came out of the gates really quickly tonight and played well in game one. Tayler (Rohwer) and Kelsey (McGowan) were blocking at the net, getting their hands on the ball, and slowing their offense down. We also had good digs, and played with them in game one. Their offense really got going in games two and three (though), and it was hard to defend them the rest of the way."
Jenna Snyder had five kills for Alta-Aurelia and Alexis Hernandez had four; Kelsi Snyder had 14 assists; freshman Erica Lockin had 11 digs; Taler Staton was 7-7 serving, and Gracie Winterhof and Kelsi Snyder were each 5-6 from the serve line.
Alta-Aurelia finishes the season with a 7-24 record.
