Violet Iona Peterson

Violet Iona Peterson of Alta, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011 at Countryside Estates of Cherokee. A funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Alta, with Craig Lee officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta at a later date. A visitation was held on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Iona Peterson was born the twin daughter of Jens Christian Schmidt and Anna Patrea Olson Schmidt in Alta, on February 23, 1919. She attended Alta Schools graduating in 1938. She was united in marriage to Frank Galen Peterson on Feb. 23, 1941 at the First Presbyterian Church of Alta.The union of this wonderful marriage was blessed with the gift of four loving children, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Violet and Frank farmed in the Cherokee and Alta area until moving to Alta in 1970.She did house cleaning for several people in the Alta and Storm Lake area for about 47 years.She really enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, holding offices and belonging to the Ladies Aide groups. She belonged to two neighborhood clubs in the farming area northwest of Alta.She enjoyed cooking for the many family gatherings and going to the church dinners that were held after some church services. She loved to visit with friends and relatives and she dearly loved and prized her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; one son, Galen Peterson; two sisters, Marguel Marie Laurine McMullen, and her twin, Lylia Rose Bond.

Violet is survived by two sons, Ron and wife Shirley Peterson of Cherokee, and Leon and wife Barb Peterson of Holstein; one daughter, Laurine Smith of White Salmon, Wash.; and a former daughter-law, Trish Peterson of Alta; nine grandchildren, Lauri and Ed Garvin, Angela and Tracy Stevenson, Joseph and Jessie Peterson, Shelly Nicholsen, Jeffery and Becka Cooper, Shawn and Jenny Peterson, David Peterson and friend Steph and her children, Riley and Justin, Terry and Greta Peterson and Traci Peterson and her friend Jacob; step-grandchildren, Angie and Jason Dalrymple and Aaron and Tera Hamann; fourteen great-grandchildren, Tenice, Trent, Jesica, Hailey, Cassidy, Trevor, Damon, Beau, Drew, Annie, Logan, Cameron, Kaden and Allie; and step-great-grandchildren, Oliver, Olivia, Lillian and Gavin.

She will be missed by many friends and neighbors whom she touched with her caring heart given to her by her Creator and Savior.

Violet will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will fill many hearts with memories of love and hope until we too meet our Savior face to face. Christ's blessings embrace you with love and hope always.
