Wendell P. Urban of Cherokee, 71, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2011 with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Claude Hogle officiated. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids. Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Wendell was born on Dec. 4, 1939 to Clyde and Arvilla (Clark) Urban at Holstein. He was confirmed and baptized at Cushing United Methodist Church in Cushing, and graduated from Cushing Consolidated School in 1959. After graduating, he attended auto body school.
Wendell was united in marriage on Sept. 27, 1964 to Suellen Cheevers at Sioux Rapids. The couple have lived in Cherokee since 1992 and prior to this they lived in Storm Lake for 30 years. Wendell worked as a body shop mechanic at Peterson Motors in Storm Lake for 25 years, and he was also employed at Wilson Foods in Cherokee for seven years before retiring in 1990 due to health reasons. He was a member of the Methodist church and also the Moose Lodge. As a teenager, Wendell joined the National Rifle Association, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and his stamp collection.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Daniel Urban.
Wendell is survived by his loving wife Suellen Urban; seven children: Jim (Dorothy) Urban of LeMars; Ted (Lucy) Urban of Welcome, Minn.; Wendy (William) Biller of Cherokee; Samantha White and her significant other Bob Shannon of Des Moines; Shelly (John) Lenz of Peterson; Sarah Countryman of Sutherland; Holly Urban of Fairmont, Minn.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Urban of Storm Lake; and one brother, Edward Urban of Riverside, Calif.
