MARCUS - Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's Dalton Brady rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Tanner Utesch passed for another, but it was not enough as visiting Woodbury Central tallied four TDs to eke out a 30-22 Class A District football regular-season finale here Friday night.
Brady rushed 16 times for 50 yards in the game, while Utesch carried the ball 13 times for just 15 yards against the stout Wildcat defense. Utesch completed 18-35 passes for 294 yards, with one TD and no interceptions.
Zach Specht hauled in the Eagles passing TD on a 62-yard beauty from Utesch. Specht caught nine passes for 175 yards in the game.
Woodbury Central's Ray Scheelhaase led his team's rushing attack with 18 carries for 124 yards and two TDs. Wildcat QB Matthew Wright completed 9-28 passes for 239 yards, one TD, and three interceptions. The TD pass was to William Dougherty for 19 yards.
Specht also had two interceptions to lead the MMC defense, and Brady had one. Lee Heuser, Dylan Rolfes, and Nathan Zubrod had fumble recoveries for MMC.
Zubrod led the Eagles in tackles with eight, while Levi Letsche and Tyler Pruntry registered six apiece. Brady and Specht also rang up two 2-point conversions each.
Jace Modrell led the WC defense with10 tackles, followed by Ryan Bader and Quincy Lamp with eight each, and Josh Haberl and Jared McCoy seven apiece.
MMC ends its season with a 4-6 record, while Woodbury Central qualifies for the State Playoffs with a 6-3 mark.
