Discovering places unknown

Monday, October 31, 2011

Nicole Hatch, a 2008 Washington High School graduate, began a internship in May for Daktronics of Brookings, S.D., a company that specializes in scoreboard, displays that includes video and sound.

While juggling a dual internship in the Transportation Department and Service Sales, Nicole has had the opportunity to see new places while out on the open road.

"On my first trip I went to Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Even though we were there for work, we were able to travel the entire eastern side of the state," she said. "In Louisiana I went to New Orleans for two days and experienced all the things that go along with the city. It was fun and I learned a lot about Southern culture."

Because Nicole is doing a dual internship, her tasks vary widely depending on the day. Her responsibilities for Transportation include: traveling to conventions, trade shows and demos while generating leads, creating message content and helping complete customer satisfaction surveys. In the Service Sales department she contacts end users and resellers who have warranties that are expiring to see if they would like to extend their coverage, among other duties.

Nicole's supervisor, Tom Becker, said Nicole has done a great job learning about Daktronics products and the Transportation market.

"Nicole has been very helpful conducting a number of customer surveys," said Tom. "Her enthusiastic and energetic attitude has made these surveys more productive."

Besides the traveling and daily tasks, Nicole said it is her co-workers that make her job the most enjoyable.

"Everybody is so friendly and helpful when I have questions, and it just makes work so much easier and enjoyable," she said.

Nicole is the daughter of Cam and Susan Hatch of Cherokee, Iowa. She enjoys watching sports, exercising and traveling. After completing this internship with Daktronics, Nicole I will be returning to the University of Northern Iowa to complete her marketing and management degrees.

"Hopefully after I do that I will be able to use my experience at Daktronics to get a fabulous job in sales," she said.
