Morningside runs in Mount Marty XC

YANKTON, S.D. - Morningside College was the women's team champion and the Mustang men's team was runner-up at Saturday's Mount Marty College Invitational Cross Country meet here.

The Mustang women scored 33 points to top a 12 team field, while the Morningside men had 45 points to finish 15 points behind Concordia University, which topped the 13 team field. The title was the third of the season for the Mustang women, who were led by seniors Jessica Weborg and Lydia Ford, who finished 5th and 6th in the individual standings with times of 18:35.98 and 18:45.65, respectively, over the 5k course.

Junior Breanna Mathes, former Galva-Holstein prep, finished 13th individually with a time of 19:03.66, and the other Mustang runners were sophomore Courtney Ruff, who finished 15th, and freshman Nicole Ausborn, who was 20th.

In the men's competition, the Mustangs had three top 10 finishers, led by sophomore Garret Ehlers from Ida Grove, who finished third with a time of 25:47.48 over the 5k course; Senior teammate Monte Larson finished 5th with a time of 26:00.47 and freshman Jay Welp, former Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn and BCLUW Conrad runner, finished 10th with a time of 26:21.26.
