Will meet Le Mars Gehlen in Regional final

IDA GROVE - River Valley's improved volleyball team stayed alive in Regional semifinal action here last week, posting a hard-earned 3-2 match victory over Ar-We-Va to advance to a Class 1A Regional final Tuesday night against Le Mars Gehlen (31-1) at Sioux City East High.

The 27-10 Wolverines served at an 87 percent clip and registered 57 kills to claim the win over Ar-We-Va.

River Valley's Kari Ludvigson was stellar throughout the five games, totaling 44-45 hits and a whopping 23 kills to lead her team at net play. She was followed by Mackenzie Fitch 35-47 and nine kills, Lexie Chester 19-20 and nine kills, Brittany Hunwardsen 18-22 and seven kills, Olivia Goettsch 11-15 and five kills, and Jacie Jepsen 4-6 and four kills.

Jepsen led her team in setting with 43 assists, while Goettsch tallied six blocks and Ludvigson three.

The Wolverines totaled 110 digs, led by Brittny Shropshire 26, Ludvigson 23, Fitch 20, Jepsen 15, Chester 14, and Goettsch 2.

Fitch paced RV's serving with a 21-24 effort and four aces, while Hunwardsen was 18-22 and four aces, Ludvigson 17-17 and one ace, Jepsen 16-19 and five aces, Chester 12-13 and three aces, and Shropshire 11-14.
