Donald Lou Sanow was born on September 26, 1928 south of Marcus, the son of August and Emma (Koerner) Sanow. He was Baptized on September 29, 1928 at home and Confirmed on March 15, 1942 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. Don attended school in Remsen. Following his education, he assisted his father and the neighbors with farming. He also installed drain tiles in Plymouth and Cherokee counties and operated a milk route with his father.
Don enlisted in the United States Army on January 9, 1951. He proudly served as a Medical Service Technician during the Korean War. Following his Honorable Discharge on April 22, 1957, he returned to Marcus. Don took a position with Sand Seed in Marcus. He would work with Sand's for over 40 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus and participated in the Men's Braille Group. Don is currently the Commander of the VFW Post #3328 in Remsen and a Life Member of the F.I. Goodburn American Legion Post #517 in Marcus.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Shirley (Stan) Nilles of Kingsley and Darlene (Junior) Connor of Austin, MN; a brother-in-law Martin Wanderscheid of Le Mars; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and his wife Carrie and Harlan and his wife Doris; two sisters, Luella Mouser and her husband Harold and Arlene Wanderscheid.
