Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church at rural Meriden. Pastor Clint Hogrefe will officiate. Burial will be prior to the service on Friday morning at 10:15 a.m. at the Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden. There will be a family prayer service at the church at 10:45 a.m. on Friday. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Mary was born on Sept. 26, 1932 on a farm near Cleghorn, to Darwin and Elizabeth (Kinzel) Smith. She attended school in Cleghorn, graduating in 1951. She was united in marriage to Richard E. Lundell on Jan. 6, 1952 at the Cleghorn Christian Church. They farmed north of Cleghorn until Richard's death in 1994.
Mary was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, The White Cross, Ladies Aid, and helped for many years in the children's department on Wednesday nights. Mary loved shopping with her grandkids and playing games. She enjoyed getting together with her lady friends for lunch and birthday get-togethers. She also enjoyed the short time living at The Beck in Cherokee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Aug. 1, 1994; a son-in-law, Tim Willis; a grandson, Christopher Willis; two brothers, Robert Smith and Milton Smith and his wife Wilma; two sisters, Marjorie Parker and her husband Roger and Lois McGowan and her husband Mac;and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Dan (Lyn) Lundell of Meriden; Bruce Lundell and his fiance Tiffany of Cleghorn; Pam (Jon) Vander Ploeg of Paullina; Becky Willis of Gilbert, Ariz.; nine grandchildren: Jennifer and Matt Regas, Amanda and Kurt Ruden, Jeff and Cassidy Lundell, Morgan Lundell, Ryan and Kassi Vander Ploeg, Cory and Chrysta Vander Ploeg, Nathaniel, Brandon, and Kayla Willis; four great-grandchildren: John and Alexa Regas, Michael and Shanna Ruden; two brothers, Francis Smith of Cleghorn and Donald (Delores) Smith of Aurelia; two sisters, Betty Wykoff and her companion Roger Baker of Mesa, Ariz. and Iris (Lyle) Schmillen of Seal Beach, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Cherokee; also many nieces, nephews and special friends.
