Last week I went to a workshop for our upcoming 2012 Summer Reading Program, DREAM BIG, READ! It's always fun to get together with other youth librarians and see what they are doing. We paged through our manual, enjoyed doing special activities, and got to be kids again! We played Jeopardy to help guide us through the manual. There were some pretty tough questions. For example, "What does a cat, mosquito, mouse, and rabbit have in common?" We couldn't use our lap tops if we didn't know the answer. They are crepuscular animals. You can use your computer, dictionary, or come to the library to find out what crepuscular means.
I'm looking forward to giving eighty-eight Roosevelt kindergarten students a tour of the library. I will show them where they can find books to check out, talk about the library rules, share some nursery rhymes, and enjoy acting out The Animal Boogie. They will receive a bookmark, and a newsletter to take home. If anyone else would like to bring a group to the library for a tour you can call 225-3498 and ask for Peg.
I also go out to Daycare Centers, Pre-Schools, and Headstart to read during the month. If you have ten or more children and would like me to come and read to them please call 225-3498 and we can set up a time.
The after school November library program will be Monday, November 21 from 3:45 -- 4:45 p.m. If you are coming from school don't forget to ride Bus #3 to the library. Rick Eugene, a professional magician, will amaze and astound you with his wit, humor, and balloon magic. A balloon station will be set up after the program for anyone wanting to make a simple balloon sculpture. All ages are welcome.
This Saturday, November 12 the Terrific Toddlers group will meet from 10:30 -- 11:00 a.m. Toddlers ages 1-3 bring a responsible person and join Peg for stories, songs, finger plays, and action rhymes. Come a little early to socialize with other toddlers and their parents. Don't forget to browse the book shelves for great read aloud books to check out and take home.
Every Tuesday at 10:30 -- 11:00 a.m. the Cherokee Public Library has Story Time for preschoolers (3-5 year olds). Come join in the fun as your child will hear and help tell stories, sing songs, do action rhymes and finger plays, and make a craft.
Don't forget the pick up a November newsletter and dress warm.
