Thompson, Riley Exchange Vows

Abby Leigh Thompson and Wade William Riley were united in marriage on June 11, 2011 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee with Pastor Sheryl Ashley as the celebrant.

Abby is the daughter of Doug and Shirley Thompson of Correctionville and the grand-daughter of Lucille Perkins, also of Correctionville. Wade is the son of Keith and Denise Riley of Cherokee and the the grandson of Ruth Meyers of Elkader and Helen Riley of Emmetsburg.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a strapless mermaid gown, featuring asymmetrical draping over the torso, with cascading taffeta meeting the tiered organza skirt with a chapel train, and intricate beading decorating the waist sash. The bridesmaids wore gray satin strapless A-line street-length gowns. The wedding colors were black and white.

Tara Pedersen of Lawton and Laci Allen of Cedar Rapids, Abby's sisters, served her as Maids of Honor, and her bridesmaids were her friends Alyssa Krier and Sami McCrea,Sara Riley, sister-in-law of the groom, and Brittany Hunwardsen, cousin of the bride.

Laityn Riley, niece of the groom, was the flower girl and Jake Pedersen and Cruz Allen, nephews of the bride, served as ring bearers.

Wade's brother Brad Riley and his friend, Charlie Leissler V, served as Best Men, and the groomsmen were all friends of the groom - Tyler Gerstandt, Cody Malone, Tony Janssen and Todd Caswell. Junior groomsmen were Cade and Kyle Pedersen, nephews of the bride.

Vocalist was Charlie Leissler IV, friend of the groom, and the organist was Denise Knaack, friend of the bride. Ushers were Jesse Pedersen and Tyler Allen, brothers-in-law of the bride, and Eric Hrubes and Marc Riley, cousins of the groom.

A reception and dance at the WITCC Conference Center, hosted by Shane and Amber Hunwardsen, cousins of the bride, and Brian and Kay Hrubes, uncle and aunt of the groom, followed the ceremony.

Abby is a graduate of River Valley High School and Wayne State College, where she earned a bachelors' degree in elementary education in 2010. Wade is a graduate of Washington High School in Cherokee, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State in 2009. He is currently coaching and teaching at the Benton Community School in Van Horn, Iowa. The couple are at home in Cedar Rapids.
