Christie Vilsack, D-Ames, candidate for the newly aligned Iowa 4th Congressional District, was in Cherokee on Wednesday. The former Iowa First Lady met with Democrats from several surrounding counties at The Grainery Lodge in rural Cherokee. The Cherokee County Democrats hosted the event where Vilsack explained to the large gathering why she has chosen to run against U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron. This is Vilsack's first venture into the political arena. Her husband, Tom Vilsack, former Iowa Governor, is currently the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
