HOLSTEIN - Yockey Insurance is celebrating its 30th anniversary since Gary and Judy Yockey began selling insurance.
They started their business in the basement office of their home and then moved to a downtown office in Washta.
In 1990, they moved their business to Holstein. Chris Yockey joined the business in 2000 and is now a joint owner in the family business.
With 30 years and thousands of insurance claims behind them, Yockey Insurance remains happy to be selling insurance and expanding every day. Over the years they have seen many changes and are amazed at how loyal their customers are.
Chris says, "Working in the insurance industry in such a stable area has given us the even-keeled approach that's necessary to stay put for so long."
*Do you have a secret to your longevity?
"We do," Chris says, "we have hired a wonderful staff, which represent our beliefs at Yockey Insurance. One of the keys to any successful business is the people you hire; another important key is that you treat people kindly and with respect."
*What do you enjoy about the insurance business?
"It's very exciting," Chris says, "we help people choose the right protection for their personal needs. We are also here to help when there is a problem. We are here when they have just had a bad car accident, or maybe they've had a windstorm or a pipe break in their house and they need friendly/knowledgeable people to help them through their loss. Our entire staff is licensed and trained to help our customers every need."
Are you surprised that you've lasted in this location 30 years?
"It really doesn't feel like 30 years," Judy says, "Hopefully we've got another generation to come."
*Do you have a favorite story from your years in the insurance business?
"All of the people we have had the privilege to know and work with." Chris says, "Those are my favorite memories and stories. They have affected us and hopefully, we've impacted them as well."
"We also have loyal customers who have been with us for 30 years and keep coming back. People are very loyal here, as long as you take good care of them," says Judy. "We would like to thank all of our customers for their business and for many more years to come."
