Taco John's 14th annual "Super Spuds" potato decorating contest

Each student in grades kindergarten, first grade and second grade at Cherokee's Roosevelt Elementary School was given a potato, compliments of Taco John's and Fareway grocery store of Cherokee.

The students were asked to decorate their potato and return it to Taco John's. When bringing in their decorated potato and each student was given a taco token, good for one free beef taco.

The prizes awarded in each grade level were as follows with the classroom teacher's name listed in parentheses:


Best Decorated Potato: Forest Princess by Megan Courtright (Hyndman)

Most Unusual: Bee on a Flower by Ahlana Joiner (Hyndman)

Potato that most looks like a well-known celebrity: Minnie Mouse by Allyssa Kraft (Kremer)

Honorable Mention: Turkey by Parissa Frederiksen (Kremer)

First Grade:

Best Decorated Potato: God Bless our Troops by Ashton Hill (Laursen)

Most Unusual: Roosevelt the Potato Parrot by Colin Eskildsen (Sleezer)

Potato that most looks like a well-known celebrity: Beach Lady Potato by Khennadi Crum (Boekhout)

Honorable Mention: Sombrero Person by Jacey Long (Jenness)

Second Grade:

Best Decorated Potato: Couch Potato by Autumn Booth (Pitts)

Most Unusual: Edward Scissorhand by Winter Claussen (Pitts)

Potato that most looks like a well-known celebrity: Puss n Boots by Rhiannon Davis (Lockin)

Honorable Mention: Decorated Taco by Jessica Tuttle (Lockin)

The class section with the best participation receiving a free party from Taco John's:

Gail Kremer's kindergarten class won the free party with 60% of her students entering a potato.
