#1 OA-BCIG girls bury Ridge View

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

IDA GROVE - Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove, Iowa's pre-season #1 rated Class 2A girls basketball team, showed they're for real with a 90-28 demolition of Ridge View in a season opener here Friday night.

All-staters Jessie Pauley and Morgan VanDerSloot paced the winning Falcons with 20 points apiece, while Jensen Boger scored 14, Mariah Cates 12, and Lexi Olerich 10 for the explosive Falcons of coach Pat Miller.

OA-BCIG sank 42-70 field goals for a sizzling 60 percent, and cashed in 16-22 free throws. Ridge View made just 11-34 shots for a scant 32 pecent, and was 8-17 from the free throw line.

Nicole Snyder led the Raptors in scoring with eight points, while Anna Davis tallied seven.

OA-BCIG grabbed 35 rebounds to 19 by Ridge View. The Falcons relentless full-court defensive pressure accounted for a whopping 30 steals in the game, with the Raptors garnering five steals.

"This was obviously a tough game for the beginning of the year," said Ridge View coach Ken Slater. "We knew it would be with the caliber of team that OA-BCIG brings to the court.

"The positive thing about the game is that we know where we have go as our weaknesses were brought to the forefront and we can address them now to help us get better for the rest of the season. Definitely, it was a tough lesson but now we know what it takes to play against the best teams in the state. Our girls did try to attack them offensively and that was a positive and they did play hard. "We just need to get to a point where we are playing hard and doing the right things offensively and defensively. The effort is there, though."
