Washta native Will Baumann, the coach of the state champion Tripoli Panthers, has been named the Class 1A Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Tripoli, which beat LeMars Gehlen in three sets to take the state title, also had the Class 1A Player of the Year, senior Megan Gilbert, as well as two other selections. senior Sara Hoppenworth and junior Bailey Kirchoff, on the eight-player First Team Class 1A All-State team.
Gehlen beat River Valley in a Regional Final to make State.
Gehlen's Steph Rohe and Amber Timmins, both seniors, were named to the Second Team Class 1A All-State team, along with River Valley senior Kari Ludvigson. RV's Lexi Chester received Honorable Mention.
No area players were selected to the Class 2-A All-State team, though two players from Lakes Conference's Hull Western Christian - Brooke Wolterstorff and Jamie Gesink, were selected to the 8-player First Team, and Western Christian's Kim Kroeze was named to the Third Team.
State 2A champ Dike-New Hartford took both Coach and Player of the Year honors in Class 2A.
