At the Library

Monday, November 28, 2011

What a great crowd we had for Rick Eugene, the balloon/magician man! There were forty-five children and parents who were amazed at the tricks, illusions, and balloon animals made by Rick.

Before the program he pulled books about magic tricks off our shelves in the children's and adult's section to share with the audience as he did his tricks. He even showed them how some of the tricks were done. At the end of the program he gave a list of all the animals he could make out of balloons and made an animal balloon for every child to take home. My favorite one was the horse. A great time was had by all! The month of November is flying by so fast it almost makes your head spin! The library has a tree decorated at the Sanford Museum's festival of trees.Be sure to stop in a take a look at all the beautiful trees. Tuesday I read a special book called "Elf on the Shelf" as part of the preschool story time.It was a story about an elf who came from the North Pole to the library. His job is to help Santa know who's been naughty and nice.

Our library elf is to report to Santa every night with his list and then fly back to the library each day until December 24.But there is one thing he needs before he can begin his job. We need to give him a name by Friday. If you come upstairs to the youth department before Friday there will be paper and pencil on the table to write down a name for our library Elf.The suggestions will be put in a hat and drawn on Friday to see what his name will be. December is just around the corner and I would like to share our library programs we will be offering during this month. First, preschool story time for three-five year olds will be every Tuesday from 10:30 - 11 a.m. Come join Peg for some stories, songs, rhymes, and December activities. Everyone gets to see Santa at this time of the year. Right?Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meet Mrs. Claus? Now is your chance! She will be visiting the library Monday, December 5 from 3:45 - 5 p.m. to greet any boys and girls who would like come and meet her. Each child will receive a treat and a bookmark. After the children have seen Mrs. Claus they will make a craft they can take home. She is looking forward to seeing all the children and will take back any messages you have for Santa.Parents don't forget to bring your cameras! The Terrific Toddlers group for 1-3 year olds and their parents will be Saturday, December 10 from 10:30 - 11 a.m.It's always fun to get together with other parents who have children the same age as yours. So come at little early to chat and let the children get acquainted with each other. Then join Peg in the story time room for action rhymes, songs, bouncing rhymes, and stories. Once again this year the children's department will be offering some activities for boys and girls during their Christmas break.Tuesday, December 27 and Thursday, December 29 we will have a make and take craft project that anyone can make. It's a come and go craft day. Come anytime between 2 - 4 p.m. and make some special winter crafts.

When you finished making your craft be sure to check out the shelves for some books to read, puzzles to take home, and dvds. Wednesday, December 28 from 2 - 4 p.m. join us for a game day. We will have board games, card games, and other indoor games that you will enjoy. Be sure to pick up our December newsletter so you won't miss out on the fun!
