Cherokee man killed in rollover

ROCKWELL CITY - James R. Scharnberg, 39, of Cherokee and formerly of Everly, died in a one vehicle crash approximately seven miles east Rockwell City at 2:36 p.m. on Friday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Scharnberg was traveling east in a 2001 Dodge pick-up truck on D-36 (old Highway 20) when he crossed the center line and over corrected and lost control. The vehicle then re-crossed the center line and partially entered the south ditch and rolled several times on the shoulder before coming to a rest on the passenger side.

The authorities stated that Scharnberg was wearing his seat-belt, but was partially ejected.

Scharnberg was pronounced dead at the scene. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
