Holiday lights, bells, snowflakes and Christmas trees. It must be December! The Cherokee Public Library is ready for the season. The building is decorated, holiday DVDs are available for checkout and there is a special display of Christmas books. We invite you to stop in and take a break from the hustle and bustle. The December issues of magazines make a wonderful excuse to relax for a little bit in the atrium and enjoy our beautiful tree.

We start off the month by closing briefly during the downtown Christmas parade on December 1. It's a nice way to kick off that holiday feeling and we enjoy watching it. The library will reopen immediately following the parade.

On Saturday, December 3, final bids will be accepted at noon for the book baskets on the Friends of the Library's annual fund raiser. There are some wonderful gift opportunities so if you have not stopped in to look at them, be sure to do so. Bids will be accepted by telephone if you are not able to come in that morning.

New on our monthly calendar is a recently formed writing group that meets at the library on Saturdays from 10 a.m. -- noon. That activity joins Sit & Stitch which meets on Mondays at 1 p.m. and READit Book Discussion Group which meets on Thursdays at 10 a.m. We invite you to participate in any or all of them.

The children's department has a busy schedule for the month starting with a visit from Mrs. Santa Claus who will be at the library on Monday, December 5 from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bring the kids and the camera and enjoy hanging out with her and making a Christmas craft.

On Saturday, December 10, Terrific Toddler Story Time takes place at 10:30 a.m. with seasonal rhymes, songs and activities. And throughout the month on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., the library is the place to be for preschool story time. I'm sure there will be some Christmas themes for those also.

Peg also has some great kid's activities planned for the week between Christmas and New Year's. On Tuesday and Thursday there will be make and take crafts from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday will be game day during the same time period. Please pick up a newsletter or call for details.

The library will be closed Saturday, December 23 through Monday, December 25 and on Monday, January 2. Happy Holidays!
