Berneice E. Koopman of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Cherokee, passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 at the Banner Thunderbird Hospital of Glendale, Ariz. at the age of 93. Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 02, at 2 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein with Jerry R Miller officiating. Burial was at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein was in charge of the arrangements.
Berneice E. Koopman was born Jan. 22, 1918 to George and Alice (Goettsch) Harden of Holstein. She was baptized and attended First Methodist Church of Cherokee. She attended the Aurelia Consolidated School and Buena Vista College of Storm Lake. She taught school in Iowa and Arizona for twenty years. She married Wallace Koopman on Nov. 14, 1942. To this union one daughter, Karen, and one son, Vaughn were born.
She moved with her family to Phoenix, Ariz. in 1967. She and her husband moved to Black Canyon, Ariz. in 1987 and to Peoria, Ariz. in November 2005.
Berneice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Virgil.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen; her son, Vaughn and his wife Lauren; one granddaughter, Maris; four sisters, Thelma McGee of Columbus, Neb., LaVonne Hoops of Galva, Gloria Felten of Aurelia, and Norma Peterson of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
