City reminds citizens of Dog and Cat Regulations

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Because of some complaints received at City Hall regarding the number of dogs and cats that may be kept in a City residence, the City is reminding residents of the Ordinance in place.

Although the City of Cherokee does not require City licensing of dogs or cats, Section 55.09 of the City Code does require that: "No household within the city limits shall maintain more than three adult animals, excluding litters up to 6 months in age."

If a household has both dogs and cats, a combination of three is the maximum allowed.

To avoid the emotional hardship of being forced to remove a pet from your household, citizens are encouraged to comply with this City regulation on a voluntary basis.
