AURELIA - The Aurelia School Board met in a special session Monday evening to hear presentations from three architectural firms regarding proposed renovations to the facility.
The renovations all deal with bringing the school facility up to ADA standards, and among the proposed projects discussed were installing an elevator, moving the cafeteria from the basement to a more accessible first floor level, and redesigning the gymnasium, including retractable bleachers to allow more space for activities.
Invision Architects of Des Moines, I & S of Minnesota, and FEH Associates from Sioux City, each presented their ideas for the projects, including rough timelines and costs. Final cost estimates and timelines would not be possible until more specific design plans are developed.
The Board discussed all three presentations at length, but no final decision was made at Monday's meeting. Board members expressed a preference for the Invision plan because this group had already visited the school and had drawn up a proposed plan, The feeling was that Invision would be able to "hit the ground running," and proceed more quickly than the other groups. Superintendent Evans said he would contact Invision architect/Project Manager Brad Leeper, who presented Invision's proposal Monday, and determine just what their fee would be. The possibility exists that the Board may meet again with Leeper soon to finalize a decision.
The Board hopes to get this project going in January in order to complete construction by the time the 2012-13 school year begins.
