Tom Rassel, 70, of Cleghorn, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Kenneth A. Seifried celebrated Mass. Burial followed at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation began at 2 p.m. on Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The family was present from 5-8 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled at 7 p.m. There was also a one hour of visitation at the church prior to the Mass on Tuesday. Thomas Robert Rassel was born on Oct. 13, 1941 in Le Mars, the son of Frank and Fern (Peck) Rassel. The family moved to Marcus, where Tom attended Holy Name Catholic School.

On Feb. 16, 1963 Tom and Donna Lea Rokes were united in marriage at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. They made their home in Marcus before moving to Cleghorn, in 1969. In early years, Tom worked as a farm hand before taking a job with the First Cooperative Association in Cleghorn. Tom was employed with the Coop for 39 years before his health forced him to retire. During his retirement he continued to drive truck and operate Tom's Mowing and Tilling. He also liked to help area farmers with the harvest.

Tom was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. He enjoyed bowling, playing Pinochle and other card games, camping and boating. Tom was a Farmall and John Deere fan, motorcycle rider and had fun visiting with his coffee group at the Cleghorn Community Center. Most of all he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donna on June 2, 2008; a great-granddaughter, Faith Renee Hill; a sister, Mary Brownmiller; and brothers, Chuck, Lawrence and Floyd.

He will be lovingly remembered by his seven children: Lori A. Head and her fiancÚ Kurt Kahl of N. Palm Beach, Fla., Brenda Parker and her husband Ted of Cherokee, Robert Rassel and his special friend Danielle of Oldham, S.D., Pam Wetherell and her husband Todd of Cleghorn, Melanie Conover and her husband Mike of Cherokee, Shelly Tackett and her special friend Roscoe Miller of Cleghorn, and Dean Rassel of N. Palm Beach, Fla.; thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie Hill and her husband Kevin, Steven Wetherell and his fiancÚ Kristen, Michael Wetherell, Kayla Rassel and her fiancÚ Brandon, Kyle, Brett and Allysa Rassel, Jennifer Miller and her husband Will, Jared Conover, Derek, Jessica and Justin Lewis, and Cody Rassel; three great-grandchildren Brayan and Samantha Hill and Lux Miller; two sisters, Kathy Johnson of Marcus, IA and Norma Bushman and her husband John of Billings, Mont.; two brothers, Paul Rassel and his wife Nancy of Marcus, and Wayne Rassel and his wife Margaret of Le Mars.
