The Cherokee JV Braves basketball team dropped a pair of Lakes Conference games just before the holiday break, losing 39-31 at Spirit Lake, and 56-33 at Estherville-LC.
Against Spirit ake, Brett Walker led the Young Braves with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Jose Freed tallied eight points, and Kevin Fajardo six. Nathaniel Morgan grabbed five rebounds and had two steals.
Cherokee was plagued by 25 turnovers and was outrebounded by the Indians.
"We fought hard in the second half and I think that's why this loss hurts so badly for the boys," said Cherokee coach Mike Nixon. "The season is still young and this group of boys is still learning."
Against E-LC, Walker led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots. Zach Taylor had four points and Morgan four points and six boards. Freed had three assists and three steals. Josh Haupert came off the bench and played hard and agressive defense, according to coach Nixon.
"Only scoring 12 points in the first half is hard for the JV boys to fight back into it," noted Nixon. "We got into foul trouble in the second half."
