CRMC Wellness Center to host 3-month weight loss and fitness challenge

Thursday, January 5, 2012

Late last summer Governor Branstad launched Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative. Setting out to help Iowa become the Healthiest State by 2016, the CRMC Wellness Center launched the first ever F.I.T.- In Cherokee weight loss and fitness challenge. F.I.T. represents "Forever in Training," and the focus is to encourage participants to forever train themselves to make health a lifestyle as opposed to weight loss gimmicks or fad diets. With that goal in mind, 42 area citizens participated in the initial 30-day challenge with great results.

As a follow up to the first highly successful challenge, the CRMC Wellness Center is pleased to announce F.I.T.- In Cherokee- Round 2. This will be a longer 3-month weight loss and fitness challenge aimed at helping the citizens of our community to become healthier. As 2012 gets started, there are sure to be many New Year's resolutions dedicated to leading healthier lifestyles. The timing is perfect to make those resolutions a reality through the realistic goal setting, education and support offered though this challenge.

F.I.T.- In Cherokee- Round 2 will begin with initial weigh-ins during the week of January 16, 2012. The program will wrap up with the final weigh-ins on April 20, 2012. Throughout this challenge, CRMC Wellness Center staff will help participants to recognize and utilize the resources available to help them succeed. Participants are asked to put forth a dedicated effort to try their best.

New to this round of F.I.T.- In Cherokee, will be the 5-person team competition. This is a great way for businesses, churches, service clubs, or friends and neighbors to put together groups to help motivate each other to meet their fitness goals while enjoying a little friendly competition. There will be prizes awarded to the winning team as well as the top male and female participants. You do not need to be a member of 5-person team to participate in the individual competition but everyone enrolled as a member of a team is eligible to compete for the top individual prizes.

There will be an entry fee of $25 per individual, or $100 for a 5-person team. Included will be a F.I.T.- In Cherokee- Round 2 t-shirt, nutrition class, weekly weigh-ins (body fat composition and weight will be tracked), plus other fitness and nutrition tracking tools designed to help participants meet their fitness goals. Entrants are not required to be a member of the CRMC Wellness Center to enter F.I.T.- In Cherokee- Round 2; however, one must be a member, or pay the daily fee, to use the Wellness Center facilities.

"We are pleased to offer this challenge to follow up on the heels of the very successful program that we held last fall," says Matt Hoskinson, CRMC Wellness Center Assistant Manager. "There is no better time than the present to take the first steps to leading a healthier lifestyle. Those who choose to put forth the effort will reap the benefits of better health and more than likely a longer, happier life."
