Eldon Fred Sorbe of Quimby, , age 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2011 at Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, with the Rev. Don Meyer officiating, and burial was at the Elk Township Cemetery in Alta, The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.

Eldon F. Sorbe was born February 11, 1925 in Albert City to Fred and Clara Sorbe. He was baptized March 15, 1925 at home and confirmed April 2, 1939 at Zion Lutheran Lutheran Church of Storm Lake. He graduated from Albert City High School in 1943 and began farming north of Alta. He was involved in grain farming and raised cattle throughout his agricultural career.

Eldon married Shirley Deppe of Storm Lake in 1948 and they had two children, Tracy and Mark. Eldon was a longtime leader in the local 4-H clubs, an active member of the B.V. County Fair Board, and of Farm Bureau. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alta. In later life, he married Connie Chicoine and together they owned and operated a neighborhood bar and grill in Quimby. He was a member of the Quimby Town and Country, and was always an enthusiastic participant of Quimby's Watermelon Days. He loved to travel, counting trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Jamaica and Las Vegas as favorites. His favorite hobbies were fishing, snooker, and of course, the "long green line" of John Deere Farm Equipment.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn O'Bannon; and

is survived by his wife, Connie; his children, Tracy (Ross) Norman and Mark (Kathy) Sorbe; step-children, Paige (Paul) Harrison, Carey (Jody) Chicoine, Annette (Kent) Hilsabeck, Therese (Les) Hallengren and Alan Chicoine; grandchildren, Tim Norman and family, Katie and Ryan Steever and family, Scott and Jessica Norman, Nick and Cali Sorbe and Adam Sorbe; and step-grandchildren, Tim and Kari Limbert and family and Mike Koth.
