MNW Cougars win Alta-Aurelia Meet

ALTA - Manson Northwest Webster wrestlers took home the team honors at Saturday's Alta-Aurelia Invitational Meet here, the Cougars totaling 199 points to runner-up Ridge View's 168.

Cherokee was a close third, scoring 161 points. Akron-Westfield placed 4th (135.5), Sioux Central was 5th (98); Carroll Kuemper was 6th (88), and host Alta-Aurelia finished 7th, scoring 84 team points.

Ridge View coach Scott Phelps said the Raptors coaches were happy with the effort, but "know we still have a lot of work to do to get better. The coaches continue to stress the importance of wrestlers wrestling the full six minutes of the match and to work on improving their technique on a regular basis."

The Raptors had three individual champs (Luke Kleigl at 106, Michael Davidson at 220, and Logan Schafer at 285), and three wrestlers who placed second.

Ridge View individual results:

106 - Luke Kliegl placed 1st (2-0, both by fall , over same opponent); 113 - Dylan Richards placed 3rd (0-1, lost by fall); 120 -Tristin Stibbins placed 5th (1-2, all by fall);

126 - Jason Kenny placed 6th (0-4, 3 by fall); 132 - Ethan Bruning placed 5th (2-2; all by fall); 126 - Preston Schmidt DNP (0-2, lost both by fall); 138 - Tylar Hansen placed 5th (2-2; won 1 by fall, 1 by decision; lost 1 by fall, 1 by decision); 145 - Matt Wandrey placed 2nd (1-1; won 1 by fall, lost 1 by fall); 152 - Dru Kenny placed 2nd (1-1; won by fall, lost by fall); 160 - Brody Stoltze placed 6th (0-3, lost all by fall); 170 - Haydan Johnson placed 5th (1-2; won 1 by fall and lost 2 by fall); 182 - Henry Sippel placed 5th (1-2; won 1 by fall, lost 1 by fall and 1 by technical fall); 195 - Nathan Myrice placed 2nd (2-1; won by fall, won by decision, lost a 1-0 decision to Chet Willer of Akron-Westfield);

220 - Michael Davidson placed 1st (won 2 matches, both by fall); 285 - Lucas Hansen placed 5th (lost 2 matches, both by fall); 285 - Logan Schafer placed 1st (won 4 matches, all by fall).

For Alta-Aurelia, Taylor Stevicks, at 132, went 3-1 - winning three matches by fall before being pinned by Akron-Westfield's Cole Ottmans with just four second lefft in the match.; 170 pounder Kevin Hernandez was 2-1; and195 pounder Garrett Van Houten was 3-1, losing only to Ridge View's Nathan Myrice.

Individual results for Alta-Aurelia:

120: Jorge McDonald won by fall over Ben Stange, A-A, in 1:08; won by fall over Tristin Stibbens, Ridge View, in 0:15 ; and lost a 10-3 decision to Dylan Dorage, Manson - Northwest Webster.

120: Ben Stange (JV) also lost by fall to Andy Pitts,Cherokee, in 0:30; lost by fall to Megan Wernimont of Laurens-Marathon in 5:26.

126: Jon Michael-Henry lost by fall to Jason Kenny, Ridge View, in 2:58; and lost by fall to Chet Utesch of Akron-Westfield in 0:53.

132: Taylor Stevicks won by fall over Cody Blair, Manson Northwest Webster, in 4:54; won by fall over Ethan Bruning of Ridge View in 2:42; won by fall over Trevor Foxhoven of Laurens-Marathon in 2:16; and lost by fall in 5:56 to Cole Oltmans of Akron-Westfield.
