Ridge View boys lose three games

Thursday, January 12, 2012

The Ridge View Raptors lost a couple of basketball games to tough opponents last week - one game to Western Valley Conference foe Kingsley-Pierson and the other to a non-conference foe, the Storm Lake Tornadoes.

The Raptors traveled to Kingsley on Friday, and, Ridge View coach Shannon Tesch says, "Kingsley-Pierson's defense bottled us up in the first half. We really didn't put ourselves in positions to get good shots - a lot of one-on-one stuff. We played as a team in the second half, though, making that extra pass, trusting each other, and taking rhythm shots. Hopefully we can build on that moving forward."

Ridge View did not have a single player who scored in double figures in the 58-39 loss to the Panthers, as Marc Meyer led the team's scoring with nine points, and he also grabbed nine rebounds; Seth Johnson scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists; Kris Alesch scored five and had six rebounds; and Travis Hoeppner also scored five and grabbed three boards.

Brandon Bainbridge and Cody Kuchel led K-P, with each scoring 12 points.

On Monday, the Raptors hosted Storm Lake in Schaller, and Ridge View was never in the contest, trailing by 10 after the first quarter, 15 at the half, and 26 after three quarters before falling to the Lakes Conference powerhouse by a final score of 80-47.

Seth Johnson led the Raptors' attack with 16 points and eight boards, while Travis Hoeppner scored 12 and grabbed five rebounds. Heath Clark, with eight points, and Kyle Wessling, with seven, also contributed to the Raptors' cause.

Trey O'Brien scored 22 points to lead Storm Lake (8-3), while Pel Deng had 16 points and Aaron Shadlow scored 11.

Ridge View coach Shannon Tesch said, "Storm Lake is a very athletic, fast-paced team. They get out and run, push the ball up the court, and make good decisions with the basketball on the break. We just didn't have the firepower to hang with them tonight."

In a tough battle that could have gone either way, the Ridge View boys were edged by Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove in Western Valley Conference basketball action in Holstein on Tuesday.

Both teams played hard, and Ridge View held narrow leads at the end of each of the first two quarters, but OA-BCIG hit a couple of big three-point baskets in the 4th quarter to spur them to a 59-55 win.

Seth Johnson and Travis Hoeppner both had double-double nights for the Raptors, with Johnson scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and Hoeppner also scoring 16 and wiping the boards for 10 rebounds, Kris Alesch scored seven and nabbed seven boards for Coach Shannon Tesch's Raptors, whose record now stands at 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Joey Luft, Alex Quall and Colin Freese all scored in double figures for the Falcons, with Luft scoring 25 points, Quall 11, and Freese 10.

The Ridge View Raptors are now 3-9 on the season and 1-3 in the Western Valley Conference. They travel to Onawa on Saturday to play West Monona.
