IDA GROVE - The River Valley boys earned a breakthrough 64-59 victory here Friday over perennial power Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove in Western Valley Conference basketball.

Zak Gander had a monster game for the Wolverines with a double-double effort of 18 points and 14 boards, while Brody Reidemann added 17 points and point guard Brennan Riedemann continues to have a solid season with 14 points, four assists and five steals while battling the press all night long, Austin Moeller added eight points and six rebounds for the Wolverines and Blaine Cullen had eight points and nine rebounds for River Valley, which played great team basketball.

River Valley coach Dean Norris said the win came at a good time for the Wolverines, who are now 2-9 on the season, and added that "hopefully, this will serve as a springboard for the remainder of the season."

River Valley travels to Alta on Thursday to take on another good team, Alta-Aurelia, in non-conference action.
