AKRON - Dylan Spieler rained in 27 game-high points to fuel the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys to a steady 48-33 basketball victory over Akron-Westfield here Tuesday night.

Spieler popped in 3-5 three-pointers to help lead the Eagles to 42 percent shooting on 18-43 field goals, and 9-16 free throws. A-W made 10-36 shots for a cold 28 percent, but was a sizzling 12-13 from the foul line.

Andrew Hoefling added seven points for the winners, and Spieler and Zach Specht grabbed six rebounds each.

David Berkes led the Westerners with 12 points, and Zach Tindall added 10.

MMC led 24-18 at halftime and then outscored A-W 24-15 in the final two periods for the second win over the Westerners this season.

"I liked the way we came out in the third quarter and took care of business," said MMC coach Pat Bird. "Our guys adjusted to what they were doing on offense, and shut down their inside game.

"Dylan had an excellent game on offense, posting up when he needed to, and going 3-5 from the three-point range when we needed to stretch out their defense."

The 6-5 MMC boys play at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn tonight.
