2012-13 football Districts assigned

BOONE - The District assignments for the 2012 and 2013 Iowa High School football seasons have been announced by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Area schools have been assigned as follows :

Cherokee is assigned to Class 2A, District 1. Other District 1 teams are Boyden Hull/Rock Valley, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, MOC-Floyd Valley, Sheldon, Sioux Center and Orange City Unity Christian. Cherokee's assigned Bye Week Opponent both seasons will be East Sac County.

The District 1 winner will meet the District 2 winner in the playoffs. District 2 teams include Clarion-Goldfield, East Sac County, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield, South Central Calhoun and Spirit Lake.

South O'Brien is assigned to Class 1-A, District 1, along with Emmetsburg, Gehlen Catholic, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted, Okoboji, and Hull Western Christian. South O'Brien's assigned Bye Week game both years will be against Class 2A Sioux Center.

Ridge View is assigned to Class 1-A, District 2. The other teams in that District are IKM-Manning, Manson-Nortwest Webster, Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, Sioux Central, and ort Dodge St. Edmond. Ridge View's assigned Bye Week game both years will be against Class 2A Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove.

The District 2 winner will meet the District 1 winner in the playoffs.

Alta-Aurelia is assigned to Class A, District 1. Other teams in the District are Akron-Westfield, Hinton, Lawton-Bronson, Sibley-Ocheyedan, West Lyon, West Sioux, and Woodbury Central. The District 1 winner meets the District 2 winner in the playoffs, and the District 2 teams are AGWSR, Belmond-Klemme, Algona Bishop Garrigan, Lake Mills, Mason City Newman Catholic, Prairie Valley, SE Webster-Grand, and West Hancock.

River Valley and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn are both assigned to District 1 in 8 Player football. Other teams in that district include Clay Central-Everly, Harris-Lake Park, Kingsley-Pierson, Remsen-Union, Remsen St. Mary's, and Whiting. The District 1 winner will meet the District 2 winner in the playoffs. District 2 teams include CAL, CWL, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, Laurens-Marathon, Newell-Fonda, North Iowa, Northeast Hamilton, and West Bend-Mallard.
