HWC girls rip cold-shooting WHS

HULL - The Cherokee Washington High girls shot just 27 percent from the field in a decisive 68-30 setback at Hull Western Christian here last week.

Cherokee sank 12-45 field goals for 27 percent, including 2-13 three-pointers, and 4-14 free throws.

The host Wolfpack made 24-57 field goals for a warm 42 percent, and converted 18-22 free throws.

Shae DeJager paced the winners with 17 points, and all-stater Brooke Wolterstorf managed 14.

The WHS gals did not have a player break into double figures scoring against the stout HWC defensive pressure, with Katie Sambrano leading Cherokee with seven points. Jackie Wilson tallied six points andf Shanon Shaefer five.

Megan Hummel led a strong rebounding effort for Cherokee with nine rebounds, while Megan Carlson grabbed six, and Wilson and Shaefer four apiece. Sambrano led in assists with three, and Shaefer led in steals with four.

The 4-11 Cherokee girls host #2 Estherville-LC (16-1) Friday night in their final home game.
