Dennis, the son of Amos and Vivian (Nelson) Unger, was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School.
Dennis married Cyndi Montagne in 1971, and they later divorced. Dennis owned and operated Unger's Specialty Welding for more than 40 years.
He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and bowling, and he was an avid reader with a special interest in history. Dennis was a friend to many people, and a very generous man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Douglas.
Dennis is survived by two daughters, Kerri (Kipp) Gibson and Nicolle (Scott) Mace, both of Sioux City; two brothers, David Ward of Cherokee and Jerry Unger of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren, Alexes, Hayley and Jacob.
