ALTA - Alta-Aurelia hosted Laurens-Marathon here Tuesday in Twin Lakes Conference basketball action, and the Warrior girls came away a with nice win over the Chargers.
Alta-Aurelia had a solid first half effort and took a 24-6 lead into the break. They lost a little focus in the second half, but were able to re-focus and come on strong in the last four minutes of the game - executing on both ends of the court and forcing the Chargers into several errors, while keeping their own turnovers at a minimum - to roll to a decisive 44-22 victory.
Gracie Winterhof and Jenna Snyder each scored 10 points to share scoring honors for the Warriors, while Stephenie Robbins added eight points and Cristena Heschke and Valarie Hernandez each scored six.
Heschke led the team in rebounding with eight boards, while Taler Stanton grabbed seven and Tayler Rohwer and Jenna Snyder each took down five. The Warriors swiped an amazing 20 passes in the contest, led by Valarie Hernadez, who had eight steals, Gracie Winterhof, who had five, and Stephenie Robbins, who had four.
The Warriors will host Newell-Fonda in Alta on Friday, and on Saturday, they will host East Sac County in a make-up game for a January 20 weather postponement.
