The next ISU Extension and Outreach "Learning with Lunch" will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from noon to 1 p.m. at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Cherokee.
Iowa Master Gardener Julie French will present the program "Spring Seed Starting." Julie is known for her interesting presentations that include practical and inexpensive gardening tips.
Spring seed starting is one of Julie's favorite gardening activities.
She states that it can be an inexpensive way to increase plants in your garden and there is something very satisfying about growing your own. It's also something you can do in your basement under lights to while away the cold winter nights. Rather than spending a lot of money on supplies, you will learn how to make or utilize recycled materials for containers and even construct an inexpensive cold frame to harden off your plants. As usual, Julie will have a lot to show and tell.
Cost for the program is $6 per person, which covers the cost of a light lunch. To reserve a seat and lunch, participants must preregister by Monday, Feb. 6 by calling the Cherokee County Extension Office at (712) 225-6196, or email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com to preregister.
"Learning with Lunch" is a series of monthly workshops offered by ISU Extension and Outreach in partnership with Western Iowa Tech Community College and Hy-Vee, all of Cherokee. A different topic is featured each month through April 2012.
