LAWTON - Longtime Cherokee car dealer Gaylen Goettsch, previously affiliated as an employee and partner with Holzhauer Motors of Cherokee, and his wife Renee, have recently purchased Lawton Motor Company here from Holzhauer Motors.
Goettsch and his son Marshall have been operating the Lawton Motor Company since Holzhauer purchased the business six years ago.
A former partnership owner of Holzhauer Motors beginning in 1982, Goettsch and his partners sold Holzhauer Motors to current owner Dan Winchell in 2002. Holzhauer Motors started in Cherokee in 1977 when then owner Al Holzhauer began the business.
Goettsch, who started selling cars in Cherokee in 1971 with Peterson Motors, which later morphed into Holzhauer Motors, said Lawton Motor company will continue to deal in used cars only, with he and Marshall operating the business on U.S. Highway 20 in Lawton.
"I've sold cars in Cherokee for 41 years and we just decided to buy Lawton Motor Company and focus our attention on this business. This was simply a family business decision."
A full sales and service dealer, Holzhauer Motors sells new and used vehicles at two locations in Cherokee - Holzhauer North and Holzhauer South.
