ORANGE CITY - The 19-3, 9th-ranked Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls overcame a sluggish start wit a big second half to deck Orange City Unity Christian 60-43 here Tuesday night.

Kayla Foresman paced the high-flying Eagles with 22 points and was joined in double figures by Erica Dreckman and Anna Wilcox with 12 points apiece, and Jalyn Doeden with 10.

Averaging 23 points per game, Dreckman was double-teamed all night, which allowed scoring opportunities all around for the rest of the team, and they didn't disappoint, with Foresman answering the call with 7-15 field goals and 8-11 free throws to lead the Eagles to the War Eagle Conference championship.

Jill Schouten led the host Knights with 13 points, as Unity Christian sank 16-45 field goals for 36 percent, and converted 7-15 free throws.

MMC made 23-52 field goals for 44 percent, and cashed in 12-18 free throws.

Doeden led MMC on the boards with eight rebounds, and Foresman snagged five and Wilcox four. Dreckman dished six assists, and Doeden and Foresman each totaled three steals.

MMC trailed 25-22 at halftime and then outscored the Knights 38-18 in the second half, including going on a 21-9 scoring run in the fourth frame to seal the deal.

"We had a sluggish start and then picked it up in the second half," said MMC coach Tim Dreckman. "Kayla had a great game, and Anna and Jalyn came through for us when we needed it. They doubled Erica all night and the other girls stepped up. We're playing good basketball at the right time."
