James LeRoy Dixson was born on Nov. 6, 1964 in Cherokee, one of six children born to Jake Sr. and Bernice (Harman) Dixson. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1983. He later attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls where he majored in chemistry.

Jim owned and operated Dixson Backhoe Service along with farming south of Marcus. He also worked for VanVoorst Equipment and worked as a hog confinement manager. Along with his work, Jim was a "Jack of all trades." He was always working on a project or helping out a friend with theirs.

On June 23, 2006 Jim and Brenda (Wiese) Simons were united in marriage at Cherokee. They made their home on a farm south of Marcus. Jim was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. For many years Jim played Santa at Mike Allen's Polar Express, the annual Christmas train-riding event held at the Allen farm. He was featured in the local media for his years of participation. Jim thoroughly enjoyed playing Santa for his nieces, nephews and area neighbors. Jim was a strong family man. He valued his family and always put them first. They will remember him as a loving husband, father, son, brother and a friend to all that knew him. They will also remember they way he lit up the room when he entered with his infectious smile.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jake Dixson Sr. and his grandparents.
