MERRILL - The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 47-year-old man found outside of a hog confinement area in Merrill.
Deputies said James L. Dixson, of Marcus, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene after a family member called 911 at 7:56 p.m. Tuesday. The call was placed from the 26000 block of 220th St.
Dixson reportedly collapsed inside the hog confinement building and was later moved outside where investigators found him, deputies said. Dixson was in the confinement area to make electrical repairs to an exhaust fan.
The Iowa Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny is conducting an autopsy to determine a cause of death, but it's believed to be either accidental or natural causes, deputies said. There was no evidence of foul play.
