The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce is alerting the public that a company by the name of Universal AdCom is soliciting advertising in the Cherokee area for a proposed Cherokee City/County Map.
This company is NOT authorized by the Chamber of Commerce or any other entity in town to do this. The salesperson making these calls is named Stacey Kelly. She tells possible customers that they are partnering with the local fire station and sheriffs' office to distribute these maps, which not true, according to the Cherokee Chamber.
No one in the community receives any of the proceeds from the advertising in this map. according to Chamber Director Julie Herring Kent. The map is white with a single color print. This is the same company that the Cherokee Chamber had problems with a year or so ago that was selling advertising for refrigerator magnets.
Herring Kent reported that Universal Adcom has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau.
This is particularly alarming to the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce because the Chamber is in fact working on a new City/County map with details to be announced next month.
According to Herring Kent, the Chamber of Commerce will receive a portion of the ad sales with this project that can be invested back into Chamber and Community projects.
If you have any questions, call the Chamber at 225-6414.
