Each year I mention a special week in April. Sometimes I just acknowledge it in passing, some years I do something about it. This time I intend to make it a big deal , so I am promoting it early. Mark your calendar and plan to stop by the Cherokee Public Library to help celebrate National Library Week from April 8-14.
On Monday, April 9, there will be a slide show at 1:30 p.m. with a repeat at 6:30 p.m. provided by the Cherokee Area Archives. I'm not sure exactly what it will contain but whatever they put together is a fun glimpse of historical Cherokee. Lemonade and popcorn for those who attend!
On Thursday, April 12, Judy from our staff will host information sessions on WILBOR at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. She will do a general explanation on how to use WILBOR to download free ebooks and audio books. Following the program she will answer individual questions about ereaders so bring yours in if you need assistance.
Also on Thursday, April 12, Peg will have a special kid's program from 3:45 p.m. -- 4:45 p.m. The topic for entertainment is not set yet but I believe it will involve some musical activities including Mr. Tap 'n Go. If you don't know who that is, you really need to see him in action. All ages are welcome!
And last but not least, there will be a daily door prize. Each person coming in the door may register once a day with drawings taking place the following morning. Prizes will range from a thermal drink cup to fresh flowers to whatever I come up with. Each day will be different but you can only win once. We will also have the coffee pot on and if I get busy, there will be cookies.
Please come in and take a look at what your local library has to offer. You may find something you didn't know you were looking for! If it's your first visit, ask for a tour. It's been almost 13 years since we opened the "new" library, but we still like to show it off.
And although this last item has nothing to do with National Library Week, you may want to take note of it also. The Easter Bunny will be at the library in the children's department from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29. Bring the kids and the camera!
Open hours for the library are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. -- 8 p.m., Tuesday and Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Cherokee Area Archives room is open 1:30-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
