Alta-Aurelia in process to start soccer program

Monday, March 26, 2012

ALTA - Alta-Aurelia has responded to student requests and is in the process of putting together a soccer program for boys and girls teams.

Will Dible is the coach of the first soccer team at Alta-Aurelia High School, and there was quite a turnout of prospective players.

Iowa high school schedules are set as much as two years in advance, though, and all current soccer teams have a full schedule, according to Alta-Aurelia Athletic Director Teri Zimmerman, so Alta-Aurelia has no schedule at this time.

Alta-Aurelia High School is in the first-year planning stages to establish boys and girls soccer teams and is seeking to play a JV schedule if possible this year. Team members recently signing on include, front row, left to right, Maria Candelario, Kate Carlson, Junior Molina, Taylor Stevicks, Josh Fitchett, Manuel Murillo, Ali Held. Back, Brandon Glienke, Cory Ballantyne, Neal Felten, Caleb Hogge, David Schmidt, Kellan Bell, Ben Stange. Absent, Nate Titus, Jon Michael Henry, Kevin Hernandez, Luic Placido, Jacob Baxter, Cecelia Lopez, Jacey Solko, Christian Witzel. Photo contributed.
If they do find some games this year, said Zimmerman, they will be considered to be Junior Varsity games, as the school is not competing in State-run tournaments this year. When they do play, it will be co-ed at this time.

"If things stay as they are," said Zimmerman. "We will try and compete next year."
