CHEROKEE - Cherokee Washington High School Athletic Director Neil Phipps has released the list of 22 teams that will be competing at the 68th annual Cherokee Tomahawk Relays on Tuesday, April 3.
The first-ever co-ed event will be run at George Hicks Field beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Past Tomahawk Relays have featured the girls one day and the boys the next. However, increased competition from other track and field meets and other scheduling conflicts have resulted in a co-ed meet this year.
Girls teams entered include Alta-Aurelia, Cherokee, East Sac County, Emmetsburg, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Kingsley-Pierson/ Woodbury Central, Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, Ridge View, Sioux Central and Spencer.
The boys' field will include Alta-Aurelia. Sioux City Bishop Heelan, Cherokee, Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Le Mars, Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, Ridge View, Sioux Central, Spencer and Sioux City West.
This year's Tomahawk Relays Honorary Referee is Chronicle Times Editor/Associate Publisher Paul Struck.
