VERMILLION, S.D. - Taylor Woods won the girls shot put title, and Eamon Adamson placed third in the 1500 meters to lead the Cherokee Washington High School track and field teams in the 2012 Norm Herren Midwest Indoor Championships in the Dakota Dome at the University of South Dakota last week.
Woods won the shot put event with a personal best throw of 37-10. Other top finishes for the WHS girls were Katy Hart fifth in the long jump at 14-09, Sara Ramirez 11th in the high jump with a leap of 4-6, and Brookelyn Hoeppner 23rd in the high jump with a 4-4 effort.
Adamson clocked a 4:37 in winning third place in the boys 1500 meters, and Marc Husman was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:11. Ben Sampson was seventh in the 500 meters in a time of 1:15.
Kevin Fajardo was 11th in 3:13 in the 1000 meters, and placed 15th in the 500 meters in a time of 1:19. Adamson was 12th in the 800 meters in 2:16, and Husman finished 17th in the 60 meters in 7.61.
The Braves 4x200 relay team of Husman, Zack Taylor, Sampson, and Fajardo was 18th in 1:43.
The Cherokee boys and girls track and field teams compete in the Galva-Holstein Relays Friday hosted by Ridge View in Holstein.
